As a nonprofit provider committed to supporting people with disabilities and their families, Lead Disability Inclusive Society BC set out to operate programs and services that will change the lives of families affected with disabilities in British Columbia and Africa. We are working with different families affected by disabilities, advocating for community inclusion, and helping people live independently as possible.

Our mission is to empower persons with disabilities and their families physically, spiritually, and emotionally in an enabling and accessible, inclusive environment and promote inclusive development in our communities.

The purposes of the Society are:

  • To educate and empower families affected with disabilities and promote inclusive development in British Columbia and Africa.
  • To ensure the spiritual, physical, and emotional well-being of immigrants and refugee families affected with disabilities to enable them to transit smoothly into their new community.
  • To ensure the alleviation of poverty amongst immigrants and refugee families affected with disabilities through the provision of food banks, basic needs, clothing, and shelter. Furthermore, to provide assistive devices and assistive technology to needy persons with disabilities who cannot otherwise afford it.
  • To ensure the economic empowerment of persons with disabilities and their families to enable them to gain greater independence, sustainability, and improved quality of life through but not limited to capacity building on agriculture, arts and craft, entrepreneurship, and ensuring start off capital.
  • To promote inclusive Education amongst children, youths, and adults with special needs through scholarship offers; direct payment of tuition to institutions, and offering of merit-based academic awards in British Columbia and Africa. Further, set up resource centers, where English and French languages, sign language, braille, information, and communication technology, and the rights of persons with special needs are being taught to enable them smoothly integrate into the community. Further, train partners and service providers on special needs and inclusive principles and practices to enhance inclusion.
  • To provide training on Professional Skills and job search skills in an accessible setting to immigrant families and refugees affected with disabilities, to enable them to have gainful employment, independence, and sustainability. Meanwhile, partnering with employers to make the necessary accommodations and ensure inclusive employment.
  • Provide counseling to immigrant and refugee families affected with disabilities where need be.
  • To network with the government, stakeholders, civil society organizations, and other service providers locally and abroad to promote disability-inclusive development. This will ensure that all stages of the development process are inclusive of and accessible to all persons with disabilities. This will be achieved through awareness and training of our collaborators on disability and inclusive development principles and practice and the UN Convention of the Rights of persons with disabilities and others.
  • Set up enabling and accessible group homes and partial inclusive training workshops and schools for children, youths, and adults with developmental disabilities in British Columbia and Africa to ensure equal opportunity, develop their gifts, and let them integrate into mainstream societal activities.
  • To promote research on disability-related issues and inclusive development to the improved well-being of persons with disabilities and families and make results known to the public.
  • To ensure basic health education on causes, management, prevention, and make referrals.
  • To advance the rights of persons with disabilities and their families in British Columbia and Africa to ensure inclusion and diversity.
  • To partner with Charities, Non-Profit, and Foundations to raise funds and receive donations and grants to accomplish the vision.

The activities of the society will be carried on without purpose of gain for its members, and any income, profit, or benefits to the society will be used in promoting the purpose of the society. This provision is unalterable.

In the event of dissolution or winding up of society, all of its remaining assets after payment of debts or liabilities shall be distributed to one or more charitable organizations or charitable foundations recognized under the provision of the income tax act and engaged in work on behalf of people with disabilities and their families. This provision is unalterable.
