PARTICIPANTS MUST:
- Be between the ages of 15 and 30,
- Be actively seeking employment or career opportunities.
- Be Black or from other racialized communities.
- Be youth with disabilities and their non-disabled counterparts.
- Be Indigenous youth.
- Be youth who are early school leavers.
- Be youth living in low-income households.
- Be youth experiencing homelessness or precarious housing.
- Be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or individuals granted refugee status in Canada.
- Be legally entitled to work in accordance with relevant provincial and federal legislation and regulations.

Fully Funded Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS) Program Designed for Youth Employment and Career Development.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
Over a 40-month period, Lead Disability Inclusive Society BC will support 250 youth facing employment barriers. The project will help these youth develop the skills and gain the experience needed to find and retain quality jobs. Up to 11 intakes will be delivered throughout the project.
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
- 6 weeks of paid in-class training and 8 weeks of paid placements.
- For youth seeking employment in British Columbia, Ontario, and Alberta.
- Qualified applicants will receive living allowances, wages, and support throughout the program to facilitate participation and success.
Each intake will consist of:
- Up to 6 weeks of employment services and employment skills training.
- 30 hours per week for 6 weeks of paid employability skills training and 8 weeks of paid work placements at minimum wage.
- 8 weeks of quality employment opportunities for youth furthest from employment.
Participant demographics include:
- 125 youth with disabilities
- 100 racialized youth
- 25 Indigenous youth
- 50 newcomers to Canada.
- Career advancement opportunities.
- Resume preparation, job search strategies, coaching, interview skills, etc.
- The nine Essential Skills and Digital Accessibility Skills (WHMIS, Food Safety, and First Aid).
- Wraparound support services.
- Certificate and ceremony upon program completion.
- An additional $750 Canadian dollars incentive for participants upon completion of the program.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the YESS Program are to help all youth develop the skills and gain the experience they need to successfully transition into the labor market. These objectives are achieved by supporting the needs of all youth, especially those facing barriers to employment, to develop skills, knowledge, and networks through education, skills development, and meaningful work experiences.
